Summer Gibson, MD, is an associate professor of neurology and chief of the Neuromuscular Medicine Division at the University of Utah. She received her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio before completing her neurology residency training and a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular diseases at the University of Utah.
And here are some of her favorite things!
What are your hobbies? Prior to having kids, I had a better answer to this question. Now it’s currently running and skiing.
What is your favorite meal? Sushi.
What are one or two things you want to learn to do? As my kids get older, I’m very excited to “relearn” a number of things—particularly sports.
What is one thing that can instantly make your day better? Sugar. I’m a big fan of anything sweet.
What song always gets you out on the dance floor? “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper.
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? I’ve had lots of unusual pets—tarantulas probably topping the list.
Name one thing on your bucket list. Travel to Madagascar.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I always wanted to be a doctor.
What is the best concert you’ve ever attended? I went to Cyndi Lauper many years ago, and that was lots of fun. My favorite concert recently was Kenny Loggins.
What is your favorite thing about your career? Taking care of my patients—especially ALS patients as they are so wonderful despite going through a very difficult disease.
