What is POTS & Beyond?
“POTS” stands for Postural Tachycardia Syndrome. POTS & Beyond is a Utah-based hybrid conference organized to improve access to evidence-based care for patients with POTS and related disorders. The conference offers expert content on POTS and related autonomic nervous system disorders. Information ranges from the basics (what it is, diagnosis, patient treatment plans) to up-to-date research findings and new therapies.
Prior conferences have targeted a variety of audiences, including primary care, pediatrics, subspecialists, and patients and their caregivers.
Please sign up if you would like to be notified of future conference dates.

Clinician & Research Updates
Autonomic Physiology Lab
- The Cortez Autonomic and Sensory Physiology Lab’s mission is to understand the physiologic underpinnings of the most disabling symptoms experienced by sufferers of headaches, traumatic brain injury (TBI [aka concussion]), and other neurological disorders affecting sensory function and the autonomic nervous system.
Ongoing Research
- The Cortez Autonomic Physiology Lab at the University of Utah is currently conducting SIX research studies that investigate autonomic dysfunction in traumatic brain injury, migraine, dysautonomia, and multiple sclerosis.
Clinical Testing for Your Patients
Our neurologists offer a comprehensive evaluation for people with suspected autonomic nervous system dysfunction. We know what tests to order and how to interpret results. Our specialists will provide primary care providers or other referring providers with a detailed summary of the patient's test results. Our goal is to help primary care providers manage and coordinate long-term care.

Additional Resources
On behalf of the POTS & Beyond planning committee and the University of Utah Department of Neurology, we are incredibly thankful for the generous contributions and collaboration from Dysautonomia International, including their associated Utah Patient Support Group, who helped establish POTS & Beyond in 2018. Your generosity has enabled us to reach a broad audience of learners, solicit patient and caregiver input, and helped this program realize its mission of education for providers caring for patients with POTS and related disorders. We can never fully express how much your assistance has meant to this program and to our team - thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
