About Me
Melissa Heiry was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she attended the University of Pittsburgh and studied neuroscience as an undergraduate. As an undergrad, she caught the travel bug and spent the next 5 years traveling the world and living in New Zealand and Germany. In Germany, she received a master’s degree in neuroscience, studying TRP channels for her thesis. She put her patch clamping skills to use when she moved back to the states and worked at a small biotech company, again working on TRP channels, in Cambridge, Massachusetts for the next 2 years. Feeling Europe calling her back and a newfound desire to become a doctor, Melissa moved to Dublin, Ireland and attended the Royal College of Surgeons for medical school. After 4 years, she decided she'd had enough of the rainy, drizzly Irish weather and headed for sunny Utah. Her current interests in neurology include multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. Outside of medicine, she enjoys cycling, gardening, photography and cooking.
